The story of TUGBOAT – mobile app development boutique
Tugboat is a mobile app development boutique created by Lana Amelina and Oleg Chernyshenko. We are based in Auckland, New Zealand.
After seven years in the IT industry, we decided that we have enough expertise to give our clients excellent experience.
Our name
“Tugboats are powerful for their size and strongly built”
As many new businesses do, we gave a lot of thought to the company’s name. Finally, during a walk on the Waterfront, we found the perfect name – Tugboat. We believe it reflects the heart of our business. Our small team knows how to use their energy to help others achieve their goals. A team doesn’t have to be big to be effective; it should be persistent and goal driven.

Our Experience
Lana is an experienced UI/UX designer with a focus on user experience and mobile interfaces. Her experience includes the creation of web-design and illustrations for children’s books.
Oleg is an iOS developer with a broad range of interests, including finance, mobile app monetization strategies, online marketing, game development and visual communication design.
We have connections with specialists having a wide range of skills including web-development, content creation and advertising.
What technology we use
At the moment native iOS development is the tool of our choice. We use Swift for new projects and Objective-C when we need to support older iOS apps.
We are doing React-Native development for a couple of side projects and looking to use it more often in the future.
Android development is something that we are planning to do in future if we see the demand. Currently, most commercial clients concentrate on the iOS market only.
